Hi, I'm Ian.  I'm from Sydney Australia.  I don't own any classic jap cars at the moment, but previously had a KE20 corolla.  At the moment, I am lusting after a couple of classics.  I want a KE26 (wagon KE20) and I am starting to get a real liking for a Honda S600/S800 convertable.  I hope to own both one day, but all it will take is luck and money.

    Cheers,  Ian

Hi Ian, I am Kevin from Melbourne. I have a S800 roadster which I have owned since 1980. Back then it was on the road literally all the time. I re-built the engine and worked on it, joined the "Honda S register" and had a lot of fun. Now the time has come to part with it. For various reasons it has not been on the road for quite a few years and now lives under a tarp in my carport. It is not going and needs some work but would be a relatively easy project to restore. I have heaps of parts including a hard to get bolt on hardtop and workshop manuals. If you are interested you could post a response and I can get in touch/send photos etc.

Since I have several S800's a guy gave me a rare S9 that he had left sitting out in the weather for 15 years. The bodywork is in bad shape but I have been able to get spare front wings and a door. The engine seems generally good except the exhaust system which was rusted out, and will be replaced with 304 stainless. All it needs is money but I am making progress.

    Cheers

  • My Daihatsu Charade G10 from 1981   28 weeks 6 days ago

    Dear Rainer,

Very nice work and thank you very much for sharing it with us.

I also own a G10 pre face lift, and collecting information for a restoration project. unfortunately it is severly coroded and needs lot of tinkering, which I am afraid many dont recommend to go on with.

I am insearch for replacement of body parts such as doors and bonnet if possible. But so far I have not come accross any, but hopefully look forward for.

    Hi Joey,

Welcome to Vintagejdm.com, I've always admired the RX-3 shape, I think an 808 is a sensible way to build a replica, many genuine RX-3's are becoming somewhat expensive to purchase. I will have to take a look at your car domain page. Your profile says you are in Canada, the RX-3 or any early rotary is quite rare over there, at least that's my understanding. All the best with your project and motorsport ventures. Smile

Building up a car Ive allways wanted , a 72 Mazda RX3 ,..well its actually an 808 which is being coverted over to an RX3 .Joined a local club so that I can better my driving skill and meet other sports car club members. Autocrossing will be fun , this car is really light. My car is on Car Domain "Joey Turcotte's" 72 Mazda 808 ,AKA The Shark lol.

Welcome great to get a 510 owner on board. Sounds like a great little car. Would be good to post some pics up of it too.

Welcome Ian, great to have another classic Japanese car enthusiast on board. I've always like the shape of the KE20 Corolla's, would be great to import a Twin Cam from Japan. They are great candidates for a rotary engine if that floats your boat. I don't see too many of them anymore unfortunately.

My best mates mum used to own a S600 hard top and there is some very grainy footage of her driving it down in Port Melbourne Australia. I should ask him to convert it to digital format and put it on youtube, it really is quite nostalgic to look at. My friends father (her husband) used to be a mechanic and I recall him telling me he was very impressed with the drivetrain on the old S600 which is quite unique, along with the engine.

I've not seen many S600's for sale, let alone driving around, I did see a convertible on my way back from the Nissan / Datsun Nationals in Goulburn in 2005. I briefly spoke with the owner and he had put a Datsun L20 motor in it because he couldn't find parts for the original donk. It seemed like a shame to me that the original motor was no longer in it, but at least it was still on the road.

All the best with your search anyway.

  • My Daihatsu Charade G10 from 1981   36 weeks 1 hour ago

It is rare here in Austria where I life, in Argentina I found a G10 owners club with the most owners.

I got in contact with all the G10 owners I found on the web, but there is only ONE person how did a full restore to his G10 Charade like me, and he still work on it. It's a funny thing to have contact with Sergio (the restorer of this other G10) from Portuguese, in the Argentina G10 forum one person create a new thread and show there my G10 with a comment like "this car looks like that one I had in the past", this happen to a time where I was not know this Argentina G10 owners club.

After a couple of time, Sergio answers to that thread that Rainer (me) the owner of this G10 is from Austria and that he knows me.

Since that, in every bigger japanese nostalgic car forum Sergio is also registered, but most of them are in spanish or potugese language, but it is great and very small in the same moment! The smaller the community of a car the knowledgement is much higher.

Yesterday I would to create a Facebook Group for G10 owners but there still one exists, with a picture of my G10 at home! Smile

  • My Daihatsu Charade G10 from 1981   36 weeks 15 hours ago

I made some changes so now your pictures are coming through also, its great to see so much detail put into that little car. I understand what you mean that you could have got a mustang for the same money, but sometimes you just gotta do what you love. It will certainly be a unique vehicle in years to come. Smile

  • My Daihatsu Charade G10 from 1981   36 weeks 16 hours ago

    Thanks

Yes, it was a lot of work and for sure absolut too much money for a car like this, in the USA I could restore a Mustang for it. Some times it could be a nice feeling that many others like your own car as you did it. But this could not happen yet, maybe in 10 or 20 years. But I never want to give it away, if I have sometimes the possibilities to own more then one "vintage" car, my dream is that I could own sometimes a old fuel station (best if it was a Shell like that one where I grow up) with a bigger closed garage than a typical fuelstation has....

Sometimes this dream should be come true :)

Hello and welcome, I've now added a section for Daihatsu. What are your plans for the old girl?

  • Featured Cars   1 year 2 weeks ago

Hello to everyone here. I am hoping that you might be able to give me some info on the above ute. I am looking for spare parts namely: drivers side front guard, bonet and drivers side inner guard.

We have had this ute for 20 years and the old girl is on her last legs and wont make it if I can't get these parts. She is a trustworthy old girl and I need some help to keep her going.

I would appreciate your help with this.

    Thank you

    Keith

Yeah its a shame so many have been to the crusher. When I was looking for my first car I wanted to get either a 240z or an RX4. I happened to go for the 240z at the time, but have always like the shape of the RX4 coupe.

The RX4 sedan is even rarer than the Coupe I've seen only a couple around in good condition and the Wagon, well that's even rarer again.

  • Featured Cars   1 year 12 weeks ago

I personally would love to see more rx4 coupes around as i own 3. 1 Clean Straight car 2 "wrecks" for parts a little sad i could not save them to badly damaged buy other owners But really would like to see more in car mags and car shows but there getting rare now.

    Hi mate,
Can you provide a picture of the exact model of celica you are referring to? I'm pretty sure its the same body as the Celica / Supra but would be nice to know for sure. Also what is your location? Are you in Europe? This will depend greatly on how easy they are to find.

  • building up a L28 stroker from scratch   1 year 16 weeks ago

Yeah strokers involve quite a bit of work. I guess it depends on what you want to achieve and your budget.

Did you get the LD28 crank in South Africa? I know you were lucky enough to get the L14 motor in the Datsun Violet.

  • Introduction Of Me (Khmie)   1 year 16 weeks ago

I notice you are from South Africa, the Datsun's and Nissan's were quite popular over there. You got some of the rarer ones which is great.

Welcome to the site, its a little quite here for now, but I'm developing some changes for the site that I hope to get ready soon.

    Enjoy your stay here.

  • high to all   1 year 18 weeks ago

    Hi mate,
Welcome to the site, so you are getting a Mazda RX5? Is it the piston model? Will you be putting a rotary engine in it?

A fella near me, had a nice blue one, with a turbo rotary looked quite nice. They were a bit under appreciated in Australia I guess due to the extra weight and the styling change but there are some nice examples around.

  • Hello new to the site.   1 year 18 weeks ago
