Friday night my L14 rods finally arrived in the post. I’ve only managed to get 4 so far, obviously I’ll need 6 so I’m still looking for at least 2 more. If I find another set then I’ll grab them and have 2 spare (since they are so rare) it always helps to have spares ;).
I have included a picture of what the L14 rods look like, not that it’s easy to see any differences they are afterall only a few mm longer than L24 rods.
The rods are obviously in need of a little work, they will need to be cleaned up probably magnafluxed and they will receive some other prep work possibly shot peening and definately a new set of rod bolts. ARP sell heavy duty rod bolts designed for performance applications.
Ideally I’d love to have bought custom rods like the ones available at Kameari or I believe Sunbelt in the US sell custom rods also. However at this stage I didn’t want to blow the engine budget out any further, in the future I might decide to go a bit crazier depending on what I end up doing.
I also want to mention that in my search for a set of these rods, I did manage to find some people in Australia who had some laying around but they wanted too much coin for what are second hand rods. Almost enough money to justify buying custom rods, I also looked at the option of getting some from Japan but if you don’t speak Japanese it’s very hard to communicate with a seller on Yahoo Auctions let alone understand what the auction says.
