L14 Rods Arrived

Friday night my L14 rods finally arrived in the post. I’ve only managed to get 4 so far, obviously I’ll need 6 so I’m still looking for at least 2 more. If I find another set then I’ll grab them and have 2 spare (since they are so rare) it always helps to have spares ;).

I have included a picture of what the L14 rods look like, not that it’s easy to see any differences they are afterall only a few mm longer than L24 rods.

Auto Parts PartsWorld

f you have read my previous posts concerning the L14 rods I obtained, you may have been curious where I got them? Well I was lucky enough to be contact by a fellow called David Brown from Auto Parts PartsWorld in New Zealand. He responded to a wanted I placed on ozdat in the classifieds section.

David was nice and patient while helping me with some questions (mainly regarding shipping). I believe auto parts partsworld specialise in second hand parts to suit a range of models, but most importantly they deal with Nissan and Datsun vehicles.

LD28 Crankshaft The Heart and Soul of the Stroker

Datsun built many variations of the L-series engine. As a result there are many combinations that can be used when building up any L-series to suit a range of purposes and to fit in with many racing rules.

L14 Conrods to suit LD28 and L28 Crankshaft

After several months of searching I finally came across a set of 4 (only) L14 rods. Alot of people are unfamiliar with these rods, mainly because they were only available in selected markets around the world. Some of these markets are the UK (United Kingdom), South Africa and New Zealand.

240z and 260z Stub Axles - Upgrade

One of my pet hates on the early 240z and 260z’s is the universal joints. Don’t get me wrong though I don’t really hate them but I’ve always wanted to upgrade to CV (Constant Velocity) joints. Thankfully several people have done this modification. Often used for high HP applications due to being more robust and of better design CV joints can also improve ride quality making an early 240z or 260z a nicer place to be.

Valve / Rocker / Cam Cover Polishing

For the longest time I’ve always admired a mirror like shine that comes from a valve cover. I have seen many on ebay and every so often one will pop-up. The only problem is that it is quite a large item to ship from overseas and I often hear that people needs to spend time maintaining the shine.

N42 Engine Head Acquired.

Well thanks to one of the Viczcar members Lurch. I now have an N42 engine head. The N42 is found on the L28 engine commonly found in the 280zx in Australia. I believe it can also be found on other cars such as the 280C. They are quite common compared with other heads like the P90 which is only found in some later 1980 patrols.

Just installed and ready to go.
